Impression of multiple implants using photogrammetry: Description of technique and case presentation

2014

Aim: To describe a technique for registering the positions of multiple dental implants using a system based on photogrammetry. A case is presented in which a prosthetic treatment was performed using this technique. Study Design: Three Euroteknika® dental implants were placed to rehabilitate a 55-year-old male patient with right posterior maxillary edentulism. Three months later, the positions of the implants were registered using a photogrammetry-based stereo-camera (PICcamera®). After processing patient and implant data, special abut - ments (PICabutment®) were screwed onto each implant. The PICcamera® was then used to capture images of the implant positions, automatically taking 150 image…

Total Plasma Exchange for the Management of Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura in a 13-Year-Old Female – A Case Presentation

2021

Abstract Acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a rare thrombotic microangiopathy, affecting preferentially young women in their fourth decade. Intensive care admission is often required due to organ dysfunction development risk and for specific critical care measures (Plasma Exchange-PEX). In this article, we will discuss our experience with PEX in the treatment of TTP. Case report: A previously healthy 13-year-old female presented with neurological impairment, and suspicion of stroke. The head computed tomography (CT) scan revealed absence of acute intracranian pathology, and biological evaluation displayed severe thrombocytopenia and haemolytic anemia. After 24 hours, the …

Surgical disaster following hernia mesh infection and erroneous treatment strategy: A case report

2020

Highlights • Hernia mesh infection is easier to prevent than to cure. • A late infected hernia mesh explantation is more challenging than an early one. • Hernia mesh fragmentation following partial explantation burdens its complete removal. • An incorrect surgical strategy could catalyze a chain reaction of complications.

Is prolonged febrile syndrome associated with reactive thrombocytosis a possible association in the diagnosis of Takayasu’s arteritis? A case report

2021

Takayasu’s arteritis is a rare, systemic, inflammatory vasculitis of large blood vessels with an unknown aetiology that more frequently affects women of childbearing age with progression to stenosis, fibrosis or thrombogenesis. Clinical manifestations are associated either with inflammation of the vascular wall (including fever, myalgia, arthralgia, weight loss) or the development of aneurysms and extensive vascular lesions, which creates challenges for a differential diagnosis. This current report presents the case of a female Caucasian patient, aged 23 years, that presented herself repetitively at the hospital reporting symptoms including fever, productive cough, myalgia associated with …

Radiopaque gauze migrating into the intestine – a case presentation

2020

Abstract Despite the meticulous monitoring of surgical material using the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist, gauze sponges and surgical instruments continue to be left inside patients after operations. It is an important issue for surgeons, operating room nurses and the entire medical team. Foreign bodies retained in the system may cause many disorders and result in potentially serious consequences for patients, including death. As well as this, further procedures are needed to remove them and treat any subsequent complications. Retained foreign bodies are rare, but intraluminal migration of the foreign body should be considered extraordinary. Very few cases have been reported so far. The autho…
